what is matcha?
Matcha is a type of Japanese green tea. And unlike teas you might be familiar with that you get from tea bags or loose leaves, this unique type is finely ground, powdered green tea. The name is quite fitting since matcha in Japanese means powder, so the meaning of matcha green tea is literally powdered green tea.

how matcha is made
Matcha dates back to the Tang Dynasty who ruled Japan from the year 618. It was brought to China by a Buddhist monk studying in Japan, who took seeds of the tea to grow on the banks of the temple in Kyoto, where is quickly grew in reputation as a luxurious status symbol.
1
shade growing
To grow the leaves that will later become Matcha, layer of shape are added to the fields a month before cultivation, eventually blocking 90% of the sunlight.
2
hand picked harvest
It is then ground in granite stone grinders, which are maintained by in-house skilled artisans. The grinding process is conducted in a clean room.
3
refining: meat of the leaves
After cultivation, the stems, veins, and unwanted particles are removed, leaving only the purest flesh of the leaves. The leaves are now called Tencha.

how to drink you matcha tea
Matcha tea is traditionally made using a bowl and a bamboo whisk. We’ve saved you the hassle of flyaway powder and an aching wrist, by putting ceremonial grade Matcha into a nespresso compatible pod! Give the pod a good shake before you pop it into your nespresso machine (Please note our pods won’t activate in a Nespresso Vertuo machine).
Press the dispense button as usual, and hey presto! A frothy, hot cup of matcha that even the firmest traditionalist would approve of! A little touch of honey or demerara sugar can be added to sweeten it a little. Add milk for a latte.
what will it taste like?
People describe the first taste of Matcha as “grassy” but always love the slightly sweet aftertaste matcha leaves. The higher the quality of matcha, the less astringent it tastes.
